What Washington is Talking About:
The 17th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks was marked at the Pentagon with a ceremony this morning attended by Vice President Pence and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, Bob Woodward's "Fear" is out today, and Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has declared a state of emergency ahead of Hurricane Florence.

What America is Talking About:
Ceremonies commemorating 9/11 were held at ground zero and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and more than one million people in parts of Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina are under mandatory evacuation orders as Hurricane Florence reaches winds of 140 mph.

Poll of the Day:
Trump's approval has fallen six points in a month, to 36%, and his support among independents has reached a new low of 31%, according to a new CNN poll. And it's not just CNN's poll; eight polls in the last two weeks have found Trumps' approval drop.

Trump Marks 9/11:
Trump opened the day tweeting about collusion. His first tweet about 9/11 was, "17 years since September 11th!" He and first lady Melania Trump were in Shanksville for the ceremony there, and images of him pumping his fists after arriving at John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, have been circulating online.

His speech in Shanksville, though, struck a more somber tone. Trump said those aboard United Flight 93, "boarded the plane as strangers and they entered eternity linked forever as true heroes."

"This field is now a monument to American defiance," he said. "This memorial is now a message to the world: America will never, ever submit to tyranny."

It's "Fear" Day:
Bob Woodward's heavily anticipated book is out today, and publisher Simon & Schuster said it's already printed one million copies. On its first day out "Fear" is the fifth-best-selling book of 2018 on Amazon, behind Michael Wolff's "Fire and Fury" at No. 1 and the John Oliver parody of the Marlon Bundo book at No. 2, and ahead of James Comey's "A Higher Loyalty" at No. 6.

Woodward appeared last night on  "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" where he was asked how he feels when the President calls him a liar. His response: "I'm not."

A Second Trump-Kim Meeting in the Works:
White House press secretary Sanders told reporters during yesterday's briefing the White House is coordinating a second meeting with Kim Jong Un, and she said a recent letter Trump got from Kim was "very warm" and "very friendly." This comes despite national security adviser John Bolton saying North Korea has yet to take steps toward denuclearization. But Sanders pointed to Kim's letter and the fact North Korea's most recent military parade didn't have any ballistic missiles as evidence things are progressing.

Omarosa's Newest Tape:
She released her latest recording on Monday, from an October 2017 meeting on tax reform in which Trump veers the conversation towards the Steele Dossier. During the conversation, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders can be heard correcting Trump about how much was spent on the dossier, but Trump disregards it because Hope Hicks said "someone said" it cost more. Omarosa told "The View" Trump easily got bored during meetings and moved "from topic to topic."

Someone's Out Here Adding Zeroes:
Trump incorrectly tweeted some economic data yesterday, and Council of Economic Advisers Chairman Kevin Hassett had to clean it up during the briefing. Trump said the GDP was higher than the unemployment rate for the first time in 100 years, and Hassett said "at some point, somebody probably conveyed it to him, adding a zero to that, and they shouldn't have done that," because the correct number was 10, not 100.

Joe Biden Launches IGTV Show:
Joe Biden finally got his own personal Instagram last week (he had a @vp44 account, but it hasn't posted since 2016). It's already at a million followers, and he only just posted his second post, an announcement that he's partnering with ATTN, a left-leaning social publisher and media company, for an IGTV show about policy called "Here's The Deal with Joe Biden," which is perhaps the most Joe Biden name for a series. It's just the latest in a new media empire the former Veep's been building ahead of 2020. He's currently on episode No. 277 of his podcast, "Biden's Briefing," that launched last June where he records brief intros to articles he said made an impression on him.

Kanye's Fine with Nike's Kaepernick Campaign:
Kanye West is an Adidas guy. The rapper once released shoes for Nike, but parted ways in 2013 because he was unhappy with royalties, and on his song "Facts" in 2016, he said Nike treats "employees just like slaves." But West tweeted that he doesn't have a problem with the company's campaign with Colin Kaepernick, saying it "makes the world a more advanced place."

Street Art Sighting:
The Cortlandt Street subway station in New York City was destroyed in the 9/11 attacks, and reopened Saturday with a mosaic featuring words from the Declaration of Independence created by Ann Hamilton, an Ohio State art professor.

Hamilton was tapped to do the station in 2015 by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Arts and Design program. "The station is in the ground. The ground is the underlayment, the place where we prepare for everything we build above," she told the New York Times then, and she said she wanted to highlight a document that was a base "for our civic aspirations." The station will now be named the WTC Cortlandt station.
