Salvinia is a tricky beast—it doubles in size every four-five days, has tentacles that loom underneath, and chokes up waterways, making it impossible for wildlife to grow or boats to sail. It's a monster currently devastating Texas's picturesque Caddo Lake. But, never fear, the weevil is here.

Caves are full of untold mysteries, and Carlos Zorrilla is determined to uncover them all. The speleologist and all-around adventurer has already explored 230 of the 460 caves in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, but there are many more that remain undiscovered.

Lines in the Sand: When the Beach Becomes a Canvas

Anyone can write their name in the sand, but Jim Denevan uses the beach to create stunning large-scale art. What started as a hobby over 20 years ago has resulted in worldwide recognition, and he's created masterworks from Russia to Chile to Australia. At the end of the day, though, Jim's just happy to find a new beach to make his canvas.
