Where keeping score is still done by hand

It's Throwback Thursday, Y'all! 9/28/17

Inside One of Baseball's Last Manual Scoreboards

As one of the oldest ballparks in Major League Baseball, Wrigley Field is a love letter to baseball's beginnings, straight down to its original, hand-operated scoreboard. For the past 26 years, the man keeping score behind the board is Darryl Wilson, a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. Atop the scoreboard, he's got the best seat in the house.

Grooving at California's Most Retro Roller Rink

Lace up your skates, it's time to roll back in time to the sweet tunes of California's most retro roller rink, Moonlight Rollerway. Nestled in Glendale, California, Moonlight's owner Dominic Cangelosi dusts off his Hammond organ once a week to take skaters back to the good ol' days when live organ music was a roller skating rink staple.

The Garden Masterpiece Grown From Rescued Plants

In Bishopville, South Carolina, Pearl Fryar is a local gardening legend. When he first moved to the small town in the 1980s, he was almost unable to build his house because neighbors feared that as an African American, he wouldn't keep up his yard. Determined to dispel that stereotype, Fryar went on to win "Yard of the Month" from the local garden club. Since then, he's created a world-renowned topiary garden with more than 300 plants, most of which were rescued from the compost pile of a local nursery.
