Barbara Corcoran's morning routine starts the night before |
Serial entrepreneur and "Shark Tank" investor Barbara Corcoran always sticks to her morning routine, no matter what's on the day's agenda. Corcoran, who says she does her "best work before noon," starts her routine the night before. "There's something I do every night for a successful day that follows," she says. "I'd never go to bed without a to-do list done for the following day." She organizes her tasks by importance and always starts with the hard stuff: Those tasks are "never the things you want to do" first, but the things you need to do. Prioritizing that way "keeps me productive on the things that matter," Corcoran says. She also gets to work early, dresses to impress and exercises in the morning three times a week. "That's what saves me," she says. "It's more for my mental state than my physical well-being." |

How to Talk to People: Using any of these phrases daily means 'you're more emotionally secure than most' |
People who are emotionally secure are confident and comfortable in who they are. They're authentic and do the things that are meaningful to them. Harvard-trained psychologist Cortney Warren has learned that emotionally secure people are typically better at handling conflict and embracing their vulnerability around others. This is largely because they don't need much external validation. Emotionally secure people also tend to be articulate, nonjudgmental and good at taking constructive criticism, Warren says. Their strong belief systems help them make better choices for themselves and those around them. If you use any of these nine phrases, you're likely more emotionally secure than most people, she says: - "Let me think about that before I respond."
- "No."
- "I'm not comfortable with that."
- "This is who I am, and I'm proud of it."
- "Am I like that?"
- "I will work on that."
- "I'm sorry you're struggling. How can I help?"
- "This matters to me."
- "I will try!"
"In meaningful relationships, emotionally secure people will make an effort to change when necessary," says Warren. "They know that taking action is key to personal growth and strengthening connections." |
