How highly successful people budget their energy |
Poor energy management is the most common cause of burnout among highly successful people, says Sarah Sarkis, senior director of performance psychology at Exos. "Energy, just like money, is finite," Sarkis says. "You have credits, and you have debits. Any time you do something that benefits your mental or physical health, like sleeping or exercising, you get a credit. But any activities that are a detriment to that, like working late or skipping a meal, are debits." To combat burnout, Sarkis recommends creating an energy budget. Start by spending one to three days keeping track of all your activities, from commuting to scrolling on TikTok. Categorize each action as a "credit," which energizes you, or a "debit," which drains you. Once your energy audit is complete, identify patterns. Did you spend a lot of time on your phone? Did you not get enough sleep? Such patterns could be "self-sabotage, undermining your efforts toward high performance," Sarkis says. Finally, think about what activities you can shift, stop or start in order to replenish your energy. |

Get Ahead: How to use ChatGPT to write a standout resume Using AI to help write your resume is the "ultimate cheat code," job experts say. According to a ResumeBuilder.com poll of more than 1,000 current and recent job seekers, nearly half (46%) reported using ChatGPT to write their resume or cover letter. Of those candidates, 70% said they saw a higher response rate from their applications when they submitted an AI-generated resume than a non-AI resume, and 59% were hired. If you're building a resume from scratch, upload two example resume formats to ChatGPT and ask the bot to create a resume format for you based on the examples you provided. Or, if you have an updated LinkedIn profile, you can share a link with ChatGPT and ask the bot to create a resume for you based on the information in your profile. Here are specific prompts you can give ChatGPT to supercharge your CV: - "I am going to send you a job description and resume. Can you optimize my resume for this job?"
- "Write resume bullet points for [insert job title here] and include metric-based achievements."
- "I am going to send you a job description. What are the keywords for [insert job title here] at [insert company name here]?"
Don't forget to proofread and edit your AI-generated resume, and to make sure you've included information and keywords tailored to your desired job. |

The No. 1 rule for raising successful kids, according to a parenting expert |
The trick to raising successful children is showcasing an optimistic attitude, says educational psychologist and parenting expert Michele Borba. "Our beliefs and attitudes spill over to our kids," Borba tells CNBC Make It. "If pessimism always builds and it becomes personal, permanent or pervasive, it robs our kids of hope." Demonstrating a more positive outlook allows children to see that they can handle life's ups and downs and still work towards attaining happiness and success. To become more optimistic, Borba recommends that parents examine their own habits. This can be done by turning off the television when you find yourself stuck in a negative news spiral, for example, or by repeating positive affirmations on days when the stress of the world is getting you down. Trying to focus on the positive is not about being in denial, she says. It's about recognizing when a behavior boosts your anxiety, and not overindulging in that. |
