On Today's Show

On GPS at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET on CNN:

First, Fareed gives his Take on the Trump administration's decision to reverse its policy of separating immigrant families at the border – and why it might be too soon for Democrats to celebrate.

"Immigration has become an issue that motivates a large group of Americans passionately, perhaps like no other. Some of this might be rooted in racism. But it also represents a kind of heightened nationalism. In an era of rampant globalization, people want to believe that they still maintain some sense of stability and control," Fareed argues.

Next, Fareed is joined by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, who this week called the separation of children from their parents at the US-Mexico border "unconscionable." They discuss US immigration policy, the US withdrawal from the UN Human Rights Council, and more.

Then: Fareed hosts a panel to discuss why immigration has become such a divisive topic in America today, and which side of the aisle has the upper hand politically. Joining Fareed to talk about this and more are Nicholas Kristof, a New York Times op-ed columnist, Linda Chavez, a columnist and commentator and the chair of the Center for Equal Opportunity, and Reihan Salam, executive editor of National Review.

Watch Linda Chavez discuss the GOP approach to immigration

Also on the show: Earlier this week, President Trump announced the US would create a new branch of the armed forces, the Space Force. What are the implications? What should the US make of Chinese and Russian advances in space? And is it inevitable that space will become an arena for conflict? Joining Fareed to discuss all this will be Neil deGrasse Tyson, head of the Hayden Planetarium and the author of "Astrophysics for People in a Hurry."
