Hurricane Death Toll in Puerto Rico Could Be More Than 70 Times Larger Than Official Number:
At least 4,645 people died because of Hurricane Maria, according to a report in The New England Journal of Medicine. The official death toll from Puerto Rico is 64. The authors of the new study wrote that their estimated death toll underscores "the inattention of the US government to the frail infrastructure of Puerto Rico."
Kim Heading to White House for Summit:
Kim Kardashian West is expected to meet with Jared Kushner and other White House officials today to discuss prison reform. It's unclear whether she'll meet Trump. Kardashian West tweeted happy birthday to Alice Marie Johnson, the 64-year-old woman serving a life sentence for nonviolent drug offenses whom she hopes Trump will pardon. Trump Goes After Jay-Z:
At his rally Tuesday night in Nashville, Trump criticized Jay-Z's "filthy" lyrics, saying they made him look "clean-cut" by comparison. LOL, OK. Reminder that last month Trump praised Kanye West for going MAGA, saying he "gets it" and that he was helping his legacy. Mr. President, have you ever listened to Yeezus?
"Roseanne" Canned:
Roseanne Barr's Twitter account has long been a liability for ABC, but Tuesday, after a racist tweet about ex-Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett and an anti-Semitic one about Chelsea Clinton (Donald Trump Jr. retweeted the Clinton tweets, btw), her show got axed.
ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey called Barr's tweets "abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values," and announced the show would be canceled. Jarrett said on Tuesday night that Disney President Bob Iger gave her a call before the cancellation became public to apologize. Barr blamed it on Ambien and the maker of Ambien tweeted that "racism is not a known side effect" of its medication. Trump, who had praised the show at a March rally, was mum on the topic Tuesday night in Nashville, but tweeted about it this morning.
ABC initially renewed "Roseanne" for another season back in March.
RIP ~"Spygate"~:
House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, a South Carolina Republican, poured water over Trump's unproven claim of spies in his campaign, telling Fox News he is "even more convinced that the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got, and that it has nothing to do with Donald Trump." Nevertheless, Trump persisted, telling the crowd in Nashville "they had people infiltrating our campaign." Stop trying to make ~"spy gate"~ happen. It's not going to happen.
Where's Melania?:
It's been 20 days and counting since we've seen the first lady. Kate writes that despite internet conspiracy theories about Melania Trump being MIA, she's doing fine. "Sadly, we deal with conspiracy theories all the time -- so this is nothing new, just more silly nonsense," said Stephanie Grisham, the first lady's spokeswoman.
Romney Supports Medical Marijuana:
In Tuesday night's Republican Senate debate at my alma mater, Brigham Young University (go Cougs), Mitt Romney said Utah's marijuana ballot initiative is not the way to go. He did say, however, he is in favor of "medicinal marijuana where a person with a condition receives a prescription from a real doctor and it's filled by a real pharmacy." | |

Street Art Sighting:
We Rise is an art festival put on by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health through June 10 that features artwork about the effects and causes of trauma, and overcoming it. I got to visit it last weekend, and although it's not a political exhibit, there were some social and political themes throughout the show.

"I think that there is obviously such a huge stigma around mental health issues in this country, and any way that you can make people feel less alone in their struggle is a way that you can give them hope and encourage them to seek help," she said.
We've seen mental health become a larger topic of public conversation, driven in part by public figures, whether it's Prince Harry, Cavaliers player Kevin Love or Britney Spears. Celebs including Kobe Bryant, Mary Lambert and Ty Dolla $ign visited the show, as did Nick Cannon, who said, "Let the young people rock, let them be the trailblazers and the leaders in our community."
